Owners of the Cadillac 2015 ATS will include a Powermat, which will allow drivers and passengers of the vehicle to wirelessly charge their smartphones.
Smartphones have become an integral part of life for many people. Smartphones provide the ability to make and receive calls but at the same time offer navigation, entertainment and information features to users. The increased usage of smartphones means that owners have to keep their smartphones charged.
Smartphones can be charged with the help of cords at home as well as in cars. Many smartphones are available with wireless charging option, but they have to be charged using a cord inside a car. However, Cadillac 2015 models of ATS sport sedan and coupe, which are launching this fall, will offer its owners the facility of wirelessly charging their smartphones, provided their handsets allow wireless charging. The 2015 Cadillac ATS will become of the first General Motors (GM) cars to be equipped with a wireless charging system.
According to an independent research firm, IHS Technology, around two-thirds of mobile phone users charge their handsets at least once every day. While around 30 percent of mobile phone users charge their devices for more than once each day. These figures highlight the importance of smartphone charging for users.
On Monday, July 28, Cadillac and Powermat announced that the 2015 Cadillac ATS as well as the 2014 Escalade will include Powermat wireless charging pre-installed in the car. Drivers or passengers will just have to place their wireless charging compatible handsets of the charging pad to charge their devices. There will be no involvement of cords and users can continue charging their smartphones while connected to the Bluetooth.
"Our lifestyles have evolved in a more mobile way than ever before and with that comes an even greater need for access to power in those places where we spend the majority of our time," says Powermat CEO Ran Poliakine. "Our integration into the Cadillac ATS is only the first step in the evolution of portable power in places that include your car, your coffee house and even your favorite sporting arena."
Not all the smartphones have wireless charging capability and, therefore; users will need to have a compatible handset to take advantage of the feature. Some smartphones such as the Nexus 5, Nexus 4, the Verizon version of the HTC Droid DNA and more will be compatible with wireless charging. Moreover, certain smartphones do not come with pre-installed wireless charging feature but users can replace the back cover of the handset to make them wireless charging compatible.
Unfortunately, the current iPhones do not have wireless charging feature. However, Apple is expected to launch a new smartphone this fall and smartphone enthusiasts will hope that the latest iPhone 6 features wireless charging as well.
