Linkle caused quite a stir among Legend of Zelda fans when she was unveiled for the 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors. Clad in a green hood and made to be a female version of Link, she wields dual crossbows and looks to pack a serious punch.
Some fans wondered why Link couldn't simply be a girl, instead of Nintendo needing to craft a female spinoff version of the hero of time, but already, Linkle has a bit of a fan following. It sounds like Nintendo is 100 percent aware of that fact, too. In a new interview with IGN, longtime Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma says they are keeping Linkle in mind.
"I'm sure we will keep her in mind when thinking about future titles," Aonuma says. He continued by elaborating on how the design of her character, including her signature crossbows, came about.
"I had a chance to give feedback on Linkle during development, but the satisfying action of using a crossbow, which we developed for the spinoff title Link's Crossbow Training, was implemented this time completely by Koei Tecmo," he says. "It may feel a little different from other titles in the franchise, but she doesn't feel out of place at all in the world of the Zelda games."
Does that mean Linkle may make an appearance in Legend of Zelda for Wii U? Tough to say, but it would definitely be a major surprise to see her outside of Hyrule Warriors. The Zelda franchise could most certainly use some female heroes, so let's hope Nintendo is seriously considering making the character a prominent part of the Zelda universe.
Hyrule Warriors: Legends arrives on Nintendo 3DS on March 25, 2016.
