Nintendo just confirmed that there's an HD remake in the works for the Legend of Zelda: Twightlight Princess, due to arrive on Wii U on March 4. Maybe that'll tide Zelda fans over until the new Legend of Zelda game is ready for release.
Twilight Princess helped wave good bye to the GameCube and hello to the Wii.
Along with better visuals, the HD remake of Twilight Princess will also include new gameplay mechanics, as if Link morphing into a werewolf wasn't already enough.
On the subject of Wolf Link, the character is being made into an Amiibo figurine and some of the info saved to it will carry over to the new Zelda game. And on the subject of Amiibo toys-to-life figurines, Twilight Princess HD will support previously released Zelda figurines.
Despite being delayed, the new Legend of Zelda game is still on track for its 2016 release and is will arrive on Wii U. But with Nintendo planning to go into details about its upcoming NX console next year, the new game could see a release on Wii U and NX just as Twilight Princess was launched on GameCube and Wii.
The new Zelda game was first confirmed during E3 2014, showed off again during the Game Awards that year and then, in early 2015, was pushed back to some point in 2016.
The game wasn't pushed back because of bugs or lack of innovation. It was pushed back because the team couldn't rein in all of the innovations flowing from its members, according to Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda.
"As we have worked to turn these possibilities into reality, new ideas have continued to spring forth, and now it feels like we have the potential to create something that exceeds even my own expectations," said Aonuma last March.
