Adding to the Street Fighter V hype, Capcom revealed F.A.N.G, the final character in the game's starting roster, and posted a new cinematic trailer.
F.A.N.G is the fourth new character in the series, and he will join the ground-pounding Necalli, the nimble Rashid and Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner Laura Matsuda on the game's release next year. According to Capcom, F.A.N.G is an assassin who uses poison attacks.
The tall, thin man with a goatee is quite powerful as his attacks stand second to only M. Bison, who leads the Shadaloo crime syndicate. As the self-proclaimed second-in-command, the qipao-wearing villain is tasked with overseeing the organization's operations. However, his true passion is in performing evil experiments.
Aside from his unusual look, which many have said resembles that of Darkstalkers' Hsien-Ko, F.A.N.G also has a distinct wacky, elitist personality. He also seems to have a fetish for the number two, which correlates to his self-proclamation of being next to M. Bison when it comes to hierarchy. This is evident in his reveal trailer where he keeps repeating that he'll finish his opponents in two minutes.
The reveal video's like/dislike bar tells of the mixed feelings of Street Fighter fans. Some hate him, some love him. Regardless of how people feel about him, his skills are certainly formidable.
"Whenever his poison attacks connect, they continuously deal damage to the opponent's life bar until he gets hit or the poison runs its course," Capcom says. "F.A.N.G's sinister long range attacks and slippery movements, paired with his ability to poison, will leave his opponents feeling ill."
F.A.N.G's entire skillset builds around poison. Even his V-skill, Nishodoku, and his V-Trigger, Dokunomu, also involve poison. Nishdoku is a slow-moving ranged attack that slowly deals damage to an opponent that gets hit. Dokunomu, on the other hand, is a defensive technique where F.A.N.G surrounds himself with a poisonous cloud that deals damage to the opponent.
"Players who enjoy tricky mix-ups and outsmarting their opponents will definitely have a blast with F.A.N.G," Capcom says.
The new character will be playable, along with the six-character DLC (Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri and Urien) and the rest of the starting roster once the game is released on Feb. 16, 2016. Characters will be unlocked as the player progresses through the game. Those who want the characters to be readily available on game launch will have the option of buying the 2016 Season Pass, which will set them back by $29.99.
Themes and costumes will also come with the Season Pass, which is now available for gamers in North America for pre-purchase. Those in Europe can get the Season Pass on launch day.
In addition, Capcom also showcased the Street Fighter V's cinematic intro for the PS4 and PC versions during the Capcom Cup event last Sunday, Dec. 6. The competition, which handed $120,000 to the first place winner, was held in San Francisco during the PlayStation Experience event in which F.A.N.G was also revealed. Another tournament with a $500,000 prize pool will be held on March 18, 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia.
