Let's face it — there are cool points involved in using Uber. How else can you explain the ever-growing service being used as a verb on a daily basis to hail a ride?
And Uber wants to spread that cool factor even more, announcing Wednesday that it's offering app developers the option to add a button to their app, that would allow users to request a ride with a simple touch.
Interested app developers would simply register their apps with Uber's dashboard. At that point, they'll receive a code needed to embed to integrate the Uber button on their app, whether it's for iOS or Android. They can customize the Uber button to appear alongside any address or 'intent to ride' within their app, while also opting to add trip details such as pickup location and destination within its program.
According to The Verge, developers could even earn additional money from Uber for embedding their button via this simple code. The website adds that U.S.-based app developers, who sign up to be Uber affiliates, can earn $5 for every new customer they refer to the ride-hailing service through the button embedding.
"By adding the button next to every address or 'intent to ride' in your App, your users will be able to tap to instantly get a ride to the hotel, restaurant, movie theater or any other destination you specify," Chris Saad, product manager for Uber API and Strategic Partnerships, wrote in a statement, as reported by The Verge. "This will help you offer a differentiated feature for your users, provide a magical experience for riders and even earn additional revenue your business."
Not to mention, it's a simple way for Uber to expand its service, considering app developers will be doing the work for the company by embedding its button code into their apps.
Win-win for both sides.
