Adobe announced the launch of its new 3D modeling app on Monday, along with other updates to its Creative Cloud suite of apps, including new features introduced to the Photoshop CC 2015 image editor.
The new Adobe Fuse CC desktop app allows users to easily create their own customized human 3D characters.
A preview of the new tool is available to download as part of the company's "Technology Previews" service that allows users to use new services and features in Creative Cloud before they are complete.
Drawing human figures may be hard for some seasoned artists, and even those who aren't artistically inclined. However, creating human figures is doable when using Fuse CC. The user gets to assemble their own characters from an expansive library of interchangeable body parts from the head down to the toes.
The 3D human character appears in the workspace, whereas the various body parts options that include different torsos, heads, arms and legs are located in a menu on the right. Click on a body part, hold down shift and click on character in the workspace to start assembling.
Users can further customize their 3D character by highlight areas on his or her body and then drag to increase or decrease the size of the body part using the menu on the right-hand side. Complete the character's look by adding clothing and textures that include fabrics like leather, cotton, spandex and satin.
When finished, the character can be saved directly to the Creative Cloud Library and can then be opened in Photoshop CC to pose and animate them right from inside the app.
"The advantage of using a 3D character in Photoshop is that lighting and perspective can still be adjusted easily and quickly at any point in the design process," Adobe writes in a blog post.
Fuse CC is available to use for free for all Creative Cloud members for a limited time.
Photoshop also got some more updates, including a new customizable toolbar and workspace. Thumbnails of recent files are presented from the start page, along with personalized tutorial content. The icons in Photoshop have also been redesigned in 2D, and the software now also has touchscreen compatibility for devices like Microsoft's Surface Pro.
Adobe also rolled out Design Space, a new mode in Photoshop that is designed for those working on apps and websites. The mode, which is also in Preview, reduces the amount of clicks and mouse movements needed to get work done to make workflow more efficient.
Other new updates include a Publish Online feature for InDesign CC, which is also in Preview, as well as a Character Animator feature for Adobe Illustrator CC and Adobe Photoshop CC, which tracks facial movement and records voice to bring artwork to life.
Adobe Creative Cloud products range in price, depending on the app or suite being purchased. Adobe's Creative Cloud Photography plan, which comes with Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC, retails for $9.99 per month, while an annual plan with access to all apps starts at $39.99 per month.
