Microsoft kept to its schedule and brought its two flagships in India as promised, launching the Lumia 950 Dual SIM and Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM.
The two devices, which operate under Windows 10 Mobile, can be bought for Rs. 43,699 ($655) and Rs. 49,399 ($741). Purchases can be made online or in brick and mortar stores. As the name suggests, the two smartphones can host two different SIMs at the same time, virtually doubling the chances for their owners to benefit from carriers' offers.
The Microsoft Display Dock, which lets the handsets act as mini-PCs, comes free of charge as a bonus to Lumia 950 Dual SIM and Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM clients. The deal stands for purchases made in India and is in effect until the stock runs out.
Not only that the smartphones can act as mini-PCs, but the Continuum feature from Windows 10 allows for an easy transition from the regular PC to the handsets and back, increasing work productivity. What is more, Continuum permits the Lumia 950 owner to hook it up to a desktop display via the Microsoft Display Dock. The dock further allows for an external keyboard and mouse to join the configuration, virtually transforming the Lumia 950 into a mobile computer.
Once you connect the device to the Microsoft Display Dock, the phone's interface changes to mimic a Windows 10 desktop, complete with the Start menu and other bells and whistles particular to the PC version of the OS.
"With the newly launched Microsoft Cloud and with Surface Pro 4, our customers here in India have the digital technology they need to seize incredible new growth and opportunity on a global scale," CEO Satya Nadella said earlier in November.
The release of Lumia 950 Dual SIM and Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM, with the docking station offered as bonus, reinforces Microsoft's commitment to its Indian clients.
To quickly summarize the specs of the two recently launched devices, here are the main highlights: the Lumia 950 hosts a WQHD OLED display of 5.2 inches, while the Lumia 950 XL's screen stretches to 5.7 inches. The chipsets are a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 on Lumia 950 and an octa-core Snapdragon 810 on Lumia 950 XL, and both devices get 3 GB of RAM. The 32 GB of storage is default for both, but the microSD card allows for upgrades of up to 2 TB.
USB Type-C ports exist on both flagships, and the embedded OS is Windows 10 Mobile Continuum, allowing Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL to act as tiny computers. It should be noted that the Lumia 950 XL also features liquid cooling, which should ensure better work stability due to improved hardware temperatures.
