iPhone 6: Latest rumor has Apple ordering up 80M handsets, 120M by year's end

After days of rumors regarding the manufacturing of Apple's iPhone 6, the latest reports claim the company is ordering Chinese factories to produce around 80 million units. That's about 20M more than reports last week.

The new iPhone 6 is expected to come in two different sizes, including a 5.5-inch model that many observers believe will be able to overcome Android's size in the market.

The reports indicate this will be the initial run of phones, with an additional 40 million by the end of the year. It comes on the heels of days of rumors over the new iPhone, what it will look like, when it will be released, etc.

At least there appears to be rumors pushing the production phase forward.

A Taiwanese news report also indicated Apple is buzzing with rumors over what could be a delayed launch of the phablet-sized model, the 5-5-incher.

As a result of the expected production schedule, the company is rumored to be hiring a number of additional workers for manufacturing. It could be hiring as many as 100,000 employees in order to deliver the high number of devices that are expected to be needed.

The company has been forceful with its upcoming product releases, with Senior VP Eddy Cue launching speculation ahead of the Worldwide Developers Conference held in June in San Francisco.

"Later this year, we've got the best product pipeline that I've seen in my 25 years at Apple," Cue told attendees, sparking much speculation on just what was in the pipeline.

More rumors and images of the upcoming Apple iPhone 6 have been leaked onto the Internet, showing what appears to be a more iPad like inlaid logo complete with a metal casing that should excited potential customers to pick up the new smartphone when it becomes available later this year.

In the latest rumor mill hut, new image leaks show a phone with what analysts and observers argue is a much smoother appearance than previous models.

The inlaid logo will be akin to the iPad, although the reasoning for why Apple appears to be going this route remains unclear, but some observers point to how the company's MacBook line of laptops allows the logo to illuminate, which could be a nice feature for the iPhone. However, others say it is likely Apple is looking to allow the device to use a number of antennae to connect with other devices in range.

Soon enough, we all will know which rumors were true and which were simply that, rumors.
