Maybe the iPhone 6 will be found under holiday trees and in Christmas stockings this year after all.
New reports indicate Apple's new iPhone 6 is close to getting into mass production, at least the rumored 4.7-inch model. The report said Foxconn is currently in the preproduction stages and there is an alleged September launch of Apple's flagship device planned.
The company is also looking to get the larger display, a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 device, into production as soon as possible, with a mid-August expectation for production to begin, say reports.
The Taiwanese news report also indicated Apple is buzzing with rumors over the delayed launch of the phablet-sized model.
As a result of the expected production schedule, the company is rumored to be hiring a number of additional workers for manufacturing. It could be hiring as many as 100,000 employees in order to deliver the high number of devices that are expected to be needed.
While Apple has previously been reported to want to have both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models on the market by the winter holiday season, new reports are suggesting that the larger display version could be held off the market until next year.
Still, as rumors abound over the future iPhone, it is expected to continue to outsell its competitors as a result of ambitious and successful marketing efforts from Apple, which has seen the iPhone become synonymous with success and desire. It is the top smartphone in the U.S. market, with over 50 percent of smartphone users owning an iPhone.
The 4.7-inch display is an increase from the 4-inch display on the current iPhone 5 model, but the company is also expected to launch a 5.5-inch display. That larger model would require two-hand use, but would put it into direct competition with Samsung and HTC, which Apple believes is needed to maintain its position at the top of the smartphone summit.
Blogger Sonny Dickson, who has in the past revealed Apple products accurately well before they have become public information, posted new images of the iPhone 6 and a few details about the long-awaited smartphone from Apple.
He posted the pictures on his personal Twitter account, which shows both models in silver and gold. It supports ongoing rumors that Apple is planning to offer the two different-sized smartphones. But a release date has not been officially revealed by the company and currently this is all part of the rumorville.
The company has been forceful with its upcoming product releases, with Senior VP Eddy Cue launching speculation ahead of the Worldwide Developers Conference held in June in San Francisco.
"Later this year, we've got the best product pipeline that I've seen in my 25 years at Apple," Cue told attendees, sparking much speculation on just what was in the pipeline.
