Although everyone is gearing up for Star Wars: The Force Awakens next month, at least one fan of the franchise wished for a different kind of movie.
So let's imagine one of the other big sci-fi movies of the past few years, Guardians of the Galaxy, getting mashed up with The Force Awakens, to make one massively epic kind of space fantasy adventure film.
One YouTube user, Alex Luthor, did just that and created a Guardians of the Galaxy version of Star Wars that many fans might like to see. In this fake trailer, the two films seem to integrate very well, with Peter Quill becoming the next incarnation of Luke Skywalker.
However, it's the action sequences blended in from both films that's really stunning here. Don't miss Gamora wielding a lightsaber.
This video which "was made purely for fun" shows some interesting creativity, and even makes fans wonder: what would it be like if Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Wars happened in the same storytelling universe?
Considering that Disney owns both franchises, could such a thing ever become possible? Seeing Han Solo telling Peter Quill in this fake trailer that "it's all true" is enough to give fans of either franchise goosebumps, after all. One could only imagine how cool it might be to see Harrison Ford and Chris Pratt in an actual scene together.
Interestingly enough, Make Use Of recently voted Guardians of the Galaxy a better science fiction movie than Star Wars (although many argue that the latter falls more under the category of fantasy than sci-fi).
"In one word, Guardians is fun," wrote Make Use Of. "There's a lot to love about this movie - the humor, the action, the performances, and even the unexpected emotional notes that hit towards the end - but at its core, this movie is a wild ride through space. As far as science-fantasy adventures are concerned, Guardians of the Galaxy executes much better than Star Wars and, as a result, ends up being a more satisfying meal."
This new trailer, though, begs the question: why not have both?
Unfortunately, it's unlikely to happen in the real world, but for now, fans still have Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening in theaters on December 18, with more films to follow to infinity and perhaps beyond. There's also a second Guardians of the Galaxy in the works.
