Bloomingdale's recently gave their little brown bags a makeover by embracing the Force and putting characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens on their signature totes.
The totes are part of a partnership with Force 4 Fashion, which combines the fashion industry with Star Wars to raise funds for charity.
The new bags come in two versions: one with Rey and one with BB-8. The Force Awakens costume designer Michael Kaplan created the bags, which are exclusive to Bloomingdale's. Part of the proceeds raised by sales of the tote go to the Child Mind Institute, a charity seeking to provide mental health care to children around the world.
"Bloomingdale's is thrilled to join forces with such a historic yet continually ground-breaking film," said Anne Keating, Bloomingdale's senior vice president of Public Relations, Special Events and Philanthropy in a press release. "We are excited to fuse fashion with pop culture to raise awareness and funds for our long standing partner, Child Mind Institute, which has been a pioneer for children's mental health."
However, Bloomingdale's and Disney also partnered with some of the world's top fashion designers to create outfits inspired by characters in The Force Awakens. Some of the fashion designers participating include Cynthia Rowley, Diane von Furstenberg, Halston and Todd Snyder, among others.
"This collaboration celebrates the distinctive synergy between film and fashion in the run up to an exceptional moment in the history of pop culture, "said Leslie Ferraro, co-chair, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media and President, Disney Consumer Products. "We're excited to see how this incredible lineup of designers interpret Star Wars characters in unique ways, as well as to raise money for a great cause."
These new fashions get unveiled on December 2 at a special launch event in New York. After that, the outfits will go on display in the Bloomingdale's flagship store's windows. An auction for each outfit will take place from December 2-18, with all proceeds going to the Child Mind Institute.
A group of British designers also celebrated Star Wars recently by creating fashions inspired by The Force Awakens: expect those outfits to turn up in a special Star Wars presentation on November 26 in London, later to get auctioned off to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity for Force 4 Change.
The special Bloomingdale's Star Wars totes go on sale in stores just before Thanksgiving and will also be available at various pop-up shops featuring Star Wars merchandise. The totes will retail for $28.
