Amazon is opening its digital doors to screenwriters of all levels.
On Thursday, the tech giant announced the launch of Amazon Storywriter, its free, cloud-based screenwriting software, welcoming writers to submit movie and television screenplays in standard format, so that they could avoid going through more costly submission channels.
The announcement is part of Amazon's search to find the next great movie or TV series. It's currently accepting drama, comedy and children's scripts via its amazonstudios.com website. The screenwriting software boasts an auto-format function as you type, import and export.
"Amazon is thrilled to support the evolution of our creative community by offering advanced tools like Amazon Storywriter to assist both established and aspiring writers in telling their stories," Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios, said in a company press release statement. "Amazon is dedicated to producing high-quality, original films and television series that customers love, and enabling more writers to obtain access to creative resources will ultimately help us discover great new talent."
Recently, Amazon announced the second season of Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street, a children's TV show that came to the tech juggernaut via its script submission.
"The show has been a huge hit with customers and a testament to the open door process," Price added. "We can't wait to see what comes in next."
