Samsung launches Level Over headphone in the United States: Can it compete with Apple Beats?

Samsung and Apple are bitter rivals, and it all began after the Korean company copied the iPhone design in both hardware and software. However, things are about to get even more interesting as Samsung just launched "Level" line of high-end headphones in the United States to compete with Beats.

Each headphone will be available for purchase beginning on Thursday, July 17 via Gilt.

The Samsung line-up of over the head high-end headphones was first announced back in April. The line-up is headed by the Level Over, and it will be sold at the decent price of $349.99. The Level Over is a pair of Bluetooth headphones with over the ear design, and noise cancellation features. The device even has NFC pairing and powerful, clear, sharp sound, according to Samsung.

For those who prefer using a cable, Samsung was wise enough to also include in the package a single detachable cable with remote and microphone features designed for attachment to a Samsung device. Furthermore, for those who might not enjoy the sound of the Level Over in its default software design, Samsung has made available an equalizer application for Android devices known as "SoundAlive."

The final headphone in the family is called the Level On. Unlike the Level Over, the On is not designed to be worn over the ear, but on it. The Level On headphones are wired, and Samsung is selling them at $179.99. These devices are foldable for easier transport, and they have a striking resemblance to the Level Over.

Finally, we have the Level In. Samsung is selling this one for $149.99, and unlike the Level Over and Level On, the Level In is designed to be placed inside the ear. Samsung claims that users will get rich and natural sound quality from the Level In, but while that may or may not be true, we have to admit that paying $149.99 for an in-ear earphone is not something we view as wise.

The rollout of Samsung Level family of headphones comes at a time when Apple is slowly closing the deal on its Beats Electronics purchase. Samsung is clearly making these moves to gain a foothold in the market to compete with Apple, but with Beats being so popular and led by one of the most successful Hip Hop performers; Samsung is expected to have a difficult time getting a leg up against Apple in this fight.
