Bust out your proton pack and order some pizza because the crossover comic you've been waiting for all your life is happening: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are teaming up with the Ghostbusters.
The crossover series is being penned by Tom Waltz and Erik Burnham, two creators who have experience with both franchises. Waltz writes the ongoing "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" comic and also serves as an editor for the ongoing "Ghostbusters" series. That series is written by Burnham, who just so happened to also write the critically acclaimed series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Secret History of the Foot Clan." Together the two bring extensive knowledge about the properties to the table.
Both franchises are celebrating their 30th anniversaries this year, so IDW says it was the perfect time to make the crossover fans have been asking about for years. IDW Comics has been doing crossovers for its licensed properties such as G.I. Joe, X-Files, and Transformers for a while now, but this series has been a long time coming.
"This is an idea that Erik, series editor Bobby Curnow, and I have bounced off each other for quite a while," said Waltz in a press release. "And being as deeply entrenched in both properties as the three of us are gives us a unique perspective on how to bring them together. And what better time to do it than during the combined 30th year anniversary celebration?"
When the Ninja Turtles are transported to a different universe by a faulty invention, they find themselves in a slightly different version of the New York City they call home, one with a bit of a ghost problem. Thankfully the Ghostbusters are on the scene to clean up the mess, but the two teams of heroes will soon learn that the Turtles didn't come alone to the Ghostbuster universe.
"Both Ghostbusters and Turtles are fun, funny and just a little bit weird," says Curnow. "So putting the two together is a natural choice, especially when you consider the fact that Tom and Erik have worked on both properties for years. This one should be an absolute blast!"
"Ghostbusters" series artist Dan Schoening will be doing the interior and regular cover for the book, with T-Rex Jones providing a variant cover for the first issue. Look for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ghostbusters" to land at a comic shop near you in October.
