Writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo have been doing great work on DC's "Batman" comic book since the title started over with a new #1 in September 2011. After proving their mettle to fans, the duo embarked on a year-long journey in 2013 called "Zero Year," which rewound the action to tell the origin of Batman in this New 52 universe.
Now that "Zero Year" is wrapping up, DC has announced the duo's next story arc, and it promises to be a big one.
With 2014 being the 75th anniversary of "Batman" comics, the team knew it was time for something big. "Endgame" is what they've come up with, a six-issue arc that, according to DC's solicitation, could spell the end of Batman. (Yeeeeah. As if.) Neither DC nor Snyder are willing to reveal any plot details yet, but Snyder recently described "Endgame" to Comic Book Resources as "most muscular and bombastic, our biggest thing that we'll take on, with the biggest cast and the craziest story moves." Take that as you will.
"We wouldn't go into Batman's 75th [year] without something really big planned," Synder teased. He promised a story that would "show why Batman is the greatest superhero of all time and why he's endured" as long as he has. Calling it "our tribute to Batman," Synder says that the story will "have some very, very over the top stuff."
"Endgame" begins with "Batman" #35, on sale October 8, 2014.
Also in October, DC is experimenting with a pair of new titles that explore completely new territory in the Batverse. "Gotham Academy" is about a prep school in Gotham with some rather twisted students. "Arkham Manor" finds Wayne Manor being used as a prison while Arkham Asylum is rebuilt. Here is all the information you need about the first issue of the "Endgame" storyline:
