Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman may be getting the lion’s share of the attention in anticipation of “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but it’s never a good idea to ignore the Man of Steel himself. In the movie, Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman, and courtesy of USA Today, fans now have their first look at the iconic superhero in the upcoming sequel.
Truth be told, there isn’t too much new about Superman’s costume for this installment. The chest insignia looks a little tweaked and the haircut is definitely tighter, but in all, it’s basically the same suit as 2013’s “Man of Steel.” Still, that hasn’t stopped director Zack Snyder from sharing his excitement with the website.
"You can talk all you want about other superhero movies, but it's Batman and Superman, let's just be honest," Snyder told the site. "I don't know how you get bigger than that."
For the most part, he’s right. “Batman v. Superman” will be the first time that DC’s “Holy Trinity” will be on the screen together. These three are the icons of the 75+ year-old company, so there is a lot of significance to this movie.
"It's never really been done and it's kinda cool,” Snyder said when talking about this historical undertaking.
In “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight are expected to duke it out before, most likely, working together to take on Lex Luthor, who is being played by Jesse Eisenberg. The movie will also see other members of the Justice League get introduced, including Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman, who is rumored to be played by “Game of Thrones” star Jason Momoa.
Of course, this movie will eventually lead to the highly-anticipated “Justice League” film in 2018, which Snyder will also direct. His “Man of Steel” was a solid, if unspectacular, hit for Warner Bros. after bringing in $668 million worldwide. The studio is hoping that the inclusion of Batman and Wonder Woman will put the franchise over the top in order to compete with Marvel.
As of now, the hype for the movie is already deafening, with each new reveal making front-page news across the world. However, if the quality isn’t there, the audience won’t follow. Fans will just have to wait and see for themselves when “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
