Sony's upcoming flagship Xperia Z3 has leaked and we get a closer look at its design. The smartphone also gets compared with the Samsung Galaxy Note in the leaked images.
While Sony doesn't have anywhere near close to the number of smartphone sales as Apple and Samsung, the company has continued to release impressive smartphones with cutting-edge features. The company is credited with making the possibility of waterproof smartphones and tablets a reality.
Sony announced the Xperia Z at CES 2013 and it was an instant hit at the trade show. It had Sony's signature style and premium parts but also included a feature that rival smartphone makers were not including. The Xperia Z was IP55 certified waterproof, which allowed the smartphone to be immersed in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
Samsung soon brought this feature to last year's Galaxy S4 Active, this year's flagship Galaxy S5, Galaxy S5 Active, and Galaxy S5 Mini. Sony is getting ready to launch its next flagship smartphone that will go head to head with Samsung's waterproof Galaxy S5.
Images of what is reportedly the Sony Xperia Z3 have been posted to Digi-wo [in Chinese] and provided an up close and personal look at Sony's next flagship smartphone. The handset even gets a size comparison shot with Samsung's original Galaxy Note phablet.
The images show the Xperia Z3 will have more rounded edges than its predecessor, a similar design Apple is using with its upcoming iPhone 6. In a strange move, the Xperia Z3 doesn't appear to include the stereo speakers the company is currently using in the Xperia Z2. The images also confirm that Sony will use a 1/2.3-inch 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS sensor with G Lens with the smartphone's rear camera.
The latest reports of the Xperia Z3's specs claim the smartphone will feature a Quad-HD 2560 x 1440 resolution and 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It's believed that Sony will use 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128 GB microSD cards.
Sony is expected to officially announce the Xperia Z3 later this summer and possibly at IFA in Berlin in September.
