Google slashes price on 6.4-inch full HD Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition

Sony's very large phablet, the Z Ultra, is currently offered by Google as a Play Edition smartphone and Google has just slashed the price of the 6.4-inch smartphone by $200.

Samsung can be credited with starting the phabletb category of smartphone beginning with the first-generation Galaxy Note. Many claimed the device would fail because it was too large to consumers to want to carry or hold up to their faces. Samsung proved its naysayers wrong and the Galaxy Note series is now what all other phablets are compared to.

If you thought the 5.7-inch screen on the Galaxy Note 3 felt a little cramped, you might want to consider Sony's answer to the Galaxy Note 3 with its Sony Z Ultra and its 6.4-inch display. The smartphone recently was added to Google's lineup of Google Play Edition devices and retailed for $649.

Google has just updated the Play Store and now the company has slashed the price of the Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition phablet from $649 to $449.

The Sony Z Ultra features a 6.4-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display that uses similar technology found on Sony Bravia TVs, which provides a gorgeous display and produces bright and natural colors. The screen has a pixel density of 342 pixels per inch and is also scratch- resistant. Another cool feature Sony added to the Z Ultra was it made the smartphone waterproof and dust resistant. Sony has received high scores for the materials used in the Z Ultra but also for having excellent specs.

The Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition ships with a high-end Sony 8-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS sensor and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Z Ultra ships with 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded though its microSD expansion slot. It also uses a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM to keep things running extra smoothly.

The Sony Z Ultra is currently in stock and will ship in one to two business days for $449.
