Those Xbox One users who pre-ordered Fallout 4 and who have already spent hours downloading the game in order to play it upon its release Tuesday may have to go through the process all over again and redownload the game.
Bethesda posted to its forums that due to a wrong "stub file," Xbox One players who pre-ordered the title before October 27 will need the new download. However, the good news is that those players can still download the full game before its release, with the game pre-loaded and activated for gameplay on Tuesday.
Those Xbox One users who use the Instant On power mode, though, will automatically receive the new game update.
"We know you're ready for Fallout 4 on November 10th, and for those that digitally pre-ordered on Xbox One, we want to make sure you're ready to jump in right away," wrote Bethesda on its forums. "If you've digitally pre-ordered the game on Xbox One on or before 10/27 and are NOT using Instant On power mode, you may still have an incorrect 'stub file' for the title, which is simply a placeholder file. Players that have this particular version of the stub file will be required to delete it, and reinstall the title."
Here are the full details on what players who pre-ordered the game prior to October 27 need to do:
1. Navigate to My Games & Apps.
2. Find the title's tile in Games.
3. With the tile highlighted, press the [Menu] button on your controller.
4. Select Manage Game.
5. In the Manage Game screen, select the storage device the game is currently installed to.
6. Select Uninstall.
7. Once the game has uninstalled, return to My Games & Apps.
8. Scroll right to the "Ready to Install" section under Games.
9. Highlight the title's tile.
10. Press [A] to select.
11. Choose Install.
Being able to download the game before its release date was one of the bonuses offered by those who pre-ordered Fallout 4 on Xbox One. Having it pre-loaded on the day of release keeps players from needing to wait hours for the game to download before jumping into gameplay.
Other bonuses offered for gamers who pre-order Fallout 4 include socks, posters and copies of Fallout 3.
Fallout 4 releases on November 10.
