When World Wrestling Entertainment touches down in the home of the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for WrestleMania 32 next April, not only does the annual extravaganza have a chance to break pro-wrestling's all-time live attendance record, but it has a shot to create a windfall of economic impact in the city.
On Wednesday, Nov. 4, WWE announced that WrestleMania 31, which was held at Levi's Stadium this past March, generated $139 million in economic impact for the Santa Clara/San Jose area in California. According to WWE, that's the second-largest economic impact in WrestleMania history and fourth-straight year that the marquee event has sparked over $100 million for its host city.
The $139 million was spent by visitors to the Santa Clara/San Jose region—$22 million of which on was spent on hotels and accommodations.
"We are proud that WrestleMania continues to deliver an incredible economic benefit for its host region," John P. Saboor, WWE executive vice president of special events, said in a press release statement. "Our WrestleMania Week success in the Bay Area would not have been possible without the support of Mayor Matthews, Mayor Liccardo, the San Francisco 49ers and countless other public and private sector partners that embraced WWE's worldwide fan base. We are excited with the planning that is already under way with our new partners in the Dallas/Arlington area for WrestleMania 32."
Added Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews: "On behalf of the beautiful city of Santa Clara, I sincerely thank all WWE fans that visited Levi's Stadium for WrestleMania 31. The event exceeded our expectations, and we would absolutely welcome the opportunity to once again host WWE's marquee event."
Earlier today, WWE launched its presale for WrestleMania 32 tickets via Ticketmaster, and already, it's seeing a record demand.
