Sony's on-demand game streaming service just got a whole lot more content.
In one fell swoop, Sony has almost doubled the number of games available for PlayStation Now, its monthly game streaming subscription service that isn't all that different from Netflix. More than 250 games are now available on the service for $20 a month or $45 for a three-month subscription. The service is available on PS4 consoles and select Sony Blu-ray players.
More than 20 of the new games come from publisher Capcom, which is bringing its signature franchises like Street Fighter and Resident Evil to the service. Six Resident Evil entries have joined PlayStation Now, including Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6, while various versions of Street Fighter II, III and IV have also been added. Mega Man fans will find plenty to enjoy as well, as Mega Man 9 and 10 join the lineup.
Other Capcom franchises, like Dead Rising and Lost Planet, have also been added. However, it's not just Capcom titles that are joining the service. Dozens of other games, ranging from Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD to Divekick, have also been added. Many of the titles are indie games or PS3 ports of older titles.
So far, only PlayStation 3 games are available on PlayStation Now, but that may change in the future. If Sony can eventually include PS1 and PS2 classics, the service may become a major selling point for the PS4, especially in light of how the system doesn't feature backwards compatibility.
