Standalone Hulk Movie 'Feels Further Away' Says Mark Ruffalo

Since Mark Ruffalo's portrayal of The Hulk in the 2012 film "The Avengers," fans have been crossing their fingers for a standalone Hulk movie, featuring Ruffalo.

Apparently, it's not just cars and sidewalks that our favorite green giant ends up crushing, it's also the hopes and dreams of Hulk fans around the world, given Ruffalo's most recent statement about the possibility of a standalone film.

"Actually, it feels even further away," said the 47-year-old actor in an interview, when asked about how close we were to getting the solo Hulk movie.

He added that the problem was related to the standalone, if ever, being Universal Pictures' property, and not Marvel's. You may remember that the 2003 "Hulk" movie was under Universal Pictures, only co-produced with Marvel Studios, Valhalla Motion Pictures and Good Machine Studios.

Ruffalo also confirms that next years "Captain America: Civil War" movie will not include The Hulk. Instead, the superhero will emerge in the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" sequels, due in 2018 and 2019.

The Hulk will also appear in "Thor: Ragnarok," shooting in July and August 2016 and slated for release in 2017. The film is to be directed by Taika Waititi ("What We Do in the Shadows"). Ruffalo remains to be in the dark about most of the film, but has nonetheless revealed that it will still involve Loki, Thor and little bit of The Hulk. He also praised director Waititi for the excellent direction that the film is going towards.

"Chris [Hemsworth] and I have a really good time together, we goof off and play around when Tom Hiddleston is around ... It'll have that kind of antagonistic Odd Couple-thing going on," said Ruffalo.

So, there you have it. A bit of a tragedy as regards the Hulk standalone, but a bit of comfort in the guise of a Ruffalo, Hemsworth and Hiddleston bromance.
