Dr. Robert Bruce Banner may have revealed that his secret for controlling his transformation to "The Incredible Hulk" is his constant anger but the actor who plays him, Mark Ruffalo, just revealed one of his hopes for the Banner-Hulk duo. On Oct. 22, at GQ's "The Gentlemen's Fund Award," Ruffalo revealed that what he wants to explore is the relationship between Banner and Hulk.
Ruffalo has yet to star in a Hulk-only Marvel film since, in the last Hulk-centric film, Edward Norton still played the part of Banner. However, Ruffalo's inclusion in Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok," directed by Taika Waititi and set for release in 2017, could potentially be a big opportunity for Ruffalo since Hulk will supposedly play a big role in the non-Earth yet non-Asgardian setting. As to what exactly it is, Marvel is keeping mum about it for now.
"I feel like there's a lot of cool stuff to explore still, especially the relationship between Banner and Hulk. Hopefully, we'll see the two of them in a scene together," Ruffalo said in an interview. Is that even possible considering Banner and Hulk are one and the same? According to The Incredible Hulk #315, it is possible and Banner and Hulk are not one and the same, but whether we get to see the events that transpired in that comic book and witness Rufallo's wish come true is up to the Marvel Executives and the production team to decide.
What exactly happened in #315 that could make Ruffalo's wish come true? Well, Doc Leonard Samson, a psychiatrist who was also exposed to Gamma radiation concluded that, because Banner can influence Hulk in some way, they are two separate entities and he found a way to separate the two. Unfortunately, he missed the very psychological concept of Banner being the Superego and The Hulk as the Id in pure rage form because, once separated from Banner, The Hulk becomes very destructive with no way of being stopped because Banner's influence no longer holds him down. Banner himself had to form a team to capture The Hulk and merge them together again.
