Porsche is requesting buyers of the Macan and Macan Turbo to bring in the vehicles for an examination and possible parts replacement.
The voluntary safety recall issued is for 58,881 Porsche Macan and Macan Turbo that have been distributed worldwide. Out of the global pool, 21,835 of the sports cars are in the United States while 3,490 were distributed in Canada. Based on the numbers, this is one of Porsche's biggest biggest recalls this year.
According to Porsche's press release, the reason for the recall is the possible leakage in the low-pressure fuel line in the engine compartment. The company is offering to replace the defective fuel line, if needed, with a new one when the owners of the specified vehicles bring them into designated workshops and service centers.
Porsche reminds Macan S and Macan Turbo owners the entire replacement process may last by about an hour. Both the service and the replacement of the fuel line will be free of charge. Moreover, owners will be informed directly and an appointment will be set.
The company also emphasizes that accidents and injuries, which are directly linked to the faulty fuel line, are yet to be reported. Hence, Porsche is issuing the recall for precautionary measures.
In March 2015, the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid and Panamera S Hybrid units that were distributed to Australia were also recalled due to a similar problem — a possible leakage at the fuel rails in the fuel injection system.
In January 2015, Porsche Cars North America, Inc.(PCNA) recalled several editions of the Cayenne S and Panamera S due to a problem with the vehicles' hybrid engine and engine cooling. This was followed by PCNA's recall of the Porsche 918 Spyder in June 2015 due to the same hybrid engine and engine cooling issue.
