Porsche 911 Carrera 4 And Targa 4 All-Wheel-Drives Get New 3.0-Liter Six-Twin Turbo Engine And 370 Horsepower

Porsche released details of the 2017 911 Targa 4 and Carrera 4 models. Better fuel consumption, faster acceleration, improved chassis and more come with the upcoming turbocharged cars that are set for an April 2016 release in the United States.

In a press release, Porsche revealed that through the combination of its turbocharged engines, which it says has more power and better fuel consumption than previous releases, and the all-wheel drive system, the 911 Carrera 4 and Targa 4 models will have traction advantage. Porsche plans to release six new models for the 2017 911 lineup — Carrera 4, Carrera 4s, Carrera 4 Cabriolet, Carrera 4s Cabriolet, Targa 4, and Targa 4s.

According to the press release, the new engine for the Carrera 4 and Targa 4 will be a fresh three-liter, flat six twin-turbo that outputs 370 ponies, which is 20 hp more than the previous release, along with 331 foot-pounds of torque. The 4s versions will be fitted with a modified compressor and will have a different tuning for the engine management system. These changes will enable the engines on the 4s to draw 420 hp and 368 foot-pounds of torque.

The company also notes that the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which was reduced by 10 millimeters, makes the handling of the upcoming vehicles more agile with no compromises on the sophistication of a comfortable ride. However, the option of rear-axle steering, which will further enhance agility, will be native to the Carrera 4s offerings.

Porsche will fit the upcoming vehicles with its proprietary infotainment and connectivity system, Porsche Communication (PCM), which will have multi-touch display for ease of use. The vehicles' exterior will also have a touch of innovation.

"The all-wheel drive models feature the numerous optical refinements of the new 911 Carrera models, including headlights with four-point daytime running lights, door handles without recess covers, a redesigned rear decklid with vertical louvers, and new rear lights with characteristic four-point brake lights," said Porsche.

Furthermore, the Carrera 4 and Targa 4 offerings will come equipped with redesigned rear lamps that will look more 3D. Moreover, much love has been put into building the Targa. Its roof segment will open and close simply by pushing a button. The soft top will be packed behind the back seats when it opens.

Porsche will ship the 911 Carrera 4 for $96,300 and the Carrera 4s for $110,300. The 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet and 4S Cabriolet will sell for $108,600 and $122,600, respectively. The Targa 4 variants will have the same prices as the Cabriolets. All of the mentioned vehicle models will include a $995-dollar destination charge.
