We've known Street Fighter V would be coming in the spring of 2016. Now, we have an exact date, and it's sooner than you might have expected.
The latest entry in Capcom's long-running fighting game franchise will release on Feb. 16, joining a number of other high-profile games, like Far Cry Primal and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for what is shaping up to be a crowded month for gaming.
The news came out of Sony's Paris Games Week press conference, but that's not all Capcom had to share. In addition to announcing the return of fan-favorite fighter Dhalsim, Capcom revealed plans for six additional fighters to be added to the game as DLC over the course of 2016.
With that news, gamers around the world let out a collective sigh of disappointment, but Capcom seems to be taking a unique approach to how players will unlock the fighters that are released after Street Fighter V is already in players' hands. Gamers will be able to buy these new fighters using in-game currency called "Fight Cash."
Though it sounds like players can spend real money to unlock these characters if they so desire, Fight Cash will be earnable through simply playing Street Fighter V.
That's definitely good news for players who have grown weary of ever-elaborate DLC plans and season passes. Street Fighter V ran into a number of issues during the game's initial beta testing period, so hopefully, Capcom can iron out the kinks before launch day. Street Fighter V releases on PlayStation 4 and PC on Feb. 16.
