The COVID-19 pandemic further boosted the gaming industry, with blockchain gaming making its first major appearance in 2020 through the GameFi (Game Finance) movement. Play-to-Earn (P2E) quickly emerged as a revolutionary model that disrupted the traditional Pay-to-Play and Free-to-Play Era, in which players would purchase games or make in-game purchases to enhance their experience. P2E instead offered a new paradigm, in which players could be paid for participating in blockchain-based games. This shift in industry focus paved the way for the novel approach to earning and eventually celebrated the start of the Ownership Era.
