Inspired by the mission "to show everything the world is saying" before other sources, Twitter announces new tools for publishers and developers that will make it easier for them to use and customize tweets on their sites and apps.
At the recently concluded Flight developer conference on Wednesday, Michael Ducker, product manager at Twitter, said the new tools are similar to what the company uses to power "Moments." Dubbed "Publish" and "Curator," these new tools are designed to simplify the storytelling process, making it more appealing to the site's 316 million monthly active users.
"With our new end-to-end ecosystem, we've simplified the storytelling process," wrote Mollie Vandor, Sr. Product Manager, on the company's official blog post. "Now you can use TweetDeck, Curator, Spredfast, Dataminr, ScribbleLive, Wayin, or Flowics to find and organize the Tweets you want into a single story."
"Publish" is designed to make it easier for news publications to customize the tweets that they embed on their websites. They can create themed collections made up of individually selected tweets and then embed the collections in a new grid format. In this manner, the photos and videos in a tweet are more emphasized which make them more appealing than a plain display of an embed text of a tweet.
"We found out from our publishing partners that almost everyone is sitting there struggling to find the tweet and copy and paste every tweet into the CMS. CMS's suck," said Ducker in an interview.
The tool will now allow users to create Identification codes that are customizable. It is now possible to generate a single code that is enough to display a list of tweets wherein the contents can be updated in real time on a dedicated homepage. Edits can be saved and altered on the site itself as compared to tweaking using a number of lines of code.
"We identified where all the friction points are. There's no one place that describes all our products. Now Twitter Publish is the new home," adds Ducker.
"Curator" is meant to help publishers easily discover relevant tweets. Equipped with advanced filtering controls feature, the new tool offers analytics capability that allow publishers to gain insights into trending topics and other relevant discussions on Twitter.
"With your tweets organized using these new tools, you can display them on your own websites with Embedded Timelines...and in your apps," said Twitter in a statement.
