Another hashtag created controversy on Twitter when the "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" trailer was released on Oct. 19 and it resulted with some overly serious and some humorous responses.
We apologize early because it might seem like we are feeding the trolls but we just can't help but share some of the reactions that made us laugh and showed that, whether they were aware that they were being trolled or not, some people still chose to use humor to respond to the situation.
Perhaps many already know about the #BoycottStarWarsVII hashtag on Twitter rallying people to boycott the new film because it features a non-white as its lead, and the speculations surrounding it. Some say that it is a racist-fueled trend, some say it was a marketing strategy and many believed it to be the work of Internet trolls who want to rile up what they termed "Social Justice Warriors" (SJWs). While the last one seems the most probable answer and the hashtag received expressions of disbelief and disgust, there were those who decided to troll the trolls.
Let's begin with Noah Schachtman, the executive editor for The Daily Beast, who tweeted a link to one of their articles equating the racists behind and those who are supportive of the #BoycottStarWarsVII hasthtag to Donald Trump's fanclub.
There were responses that suggested boycotting the new "Star Wars" film citing different reasons too. There is a human who suggested boycotting the entire franchise because it deals with non-humans since the plot revolves around characters, human-like or otherwise, who live in a galaxy far far away.
There is a suggestion to boycott a product from a food chain.
Then there is this guy who wants to boycott the new film because "Lando Calrissian is supposed to be the only black guy in the galaxy."
We can't blame this guy, though, because Lando Calrissian is awesome, but still, he belongs to another galaxy so we're sorry but you got it wrong too.
Here is one guy who comes to Star Wars' defense saying the franchise has always had black characters, especially this iconic villain.
Then there were those who chose to imagine creator George Lucas' reaction to the trend.
All in all, "Star Wars" really received so much attention in this galaxy, especially this week.
