Today is a big day for pop culture and movie fans. On this very day—Oct. 21, 2015—Marty McFly, Doc Brown and Jennifer Parker traveled from 1985 to 2015 in the second installment of the Back to the Future trilogy.
And to celebrate "Back to the Future Day," along with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the original Back to the Future movie and its very own 30th anniversary, Nintendo announced that it is re-releasing Marty McFly's favorite video game for the Wii U Virtual Console.
Those who are familiar for Back to the Future Part II know the scene where Marty discovers the then-vintage Wild Gunman arcade game. After traveling to 2015 in his DeLorean DMC-12, the movie's protagonist finds himself overwhelmed with the technology of the future. These include things like hoverboards, self-drying jackets and Power Laces.
But Marty jumps up with excitement when he hears two kids (one of them being Elijah Wood) talking about the arcade game from the past. He then picks up the attached gun and fires shots at the characters that are dressed in sombreros and as cowboys to impress the little guys with his skills. Of course, the kids are disappointed that you have to use your hands, infamously calling it a "baby's toy."
Wild Gunman pits the gamer against quick-drawing outlaws in a test of speed and accuracy. The game was originally released for NES using the Zapper light gun. Now you will be able to play the classic game on the Wii U Virtual Console, using the Wii Remote to aim and away at your targets.
Nintendo's European office announced Wild Gunman is available today for gamers overseas, with no word yet on the U.S. release.
