Here's some good news for fans of Telltale's Game of Thrones: the final episode officially has a release date.
Telltale announced the worldwide release Wednesday, Oct. 21, for "The Ice Dragon," the last chapter in the story of Game of Thrones: it's coming Nov. 17 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. That date also marks the release of the disc version of the entire game (all episodes) in retail stores for $29.99.
"The Ice Dragon" marks the first time that Telltale has offered a game release across all platforms worldwide on the same day.
Telltale's Game of Thrones is based on the HBO series of the same name, which is based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series. The game picks up around season three of the TV show and covers events that occur through season four. Although Game of Thrones players visit familiar settings such as King's Landing and The Wall, Telltale also introduced a few new locations, as well.
Players take on five different characters during gameplay: either a Forrester family member or someone who works for that family. The goal is to save House Forrester.
"The epic conclusion to the season is the most ambitious and diversely presented episode we've ever produced," said Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games in a press email. "The fate of House Forrester has been in the hands of players all season long, and the finale will be tailored to provide a uniquely harrowing conclusion for each and every player based on the decisions they've made in the game thus far."
Telltale also released a new video in anticipation of the finale of the title, showing how the cast from the HBO TV series worked with the developer and their thoughts about that experience and their characters.
"My character, Ramsay, basically evolves in the same way as he is on the show, generally causing havoc around Westeros," says actor Iwan Rheon, who portrays Ramsay Bolton on the series and in the game.
"I think it's just magical, that you, as the player, can determine your own fate within the realms of Game of Thrones, the show that we know," says actress Emilia Clarke, who portrays Daenerys Targaryen.
Finally, Telltale announced that the first episode of Game of Thrones is now free: that episode, "Iron From Ice," is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and all compatible iOS and Android-based devices.
