Things don't look so good for Castiel (Misha Collins) on The CW's Supernatural. Not only did he serve as a punching bag for a few vindictive angels last week, but now he's suffering the consequences of the spell that removed Dean's Mark of Cain, but summoned The Darkness.
In a new sneak peek of this week's episode, "The Bad Seed," Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) discuss the best way to help Castiel. However, the only solution isn't a good one: calling in Rowena (Ruth Connell), the evil witch, aka the mother of the King of Hell.
In this scene, Dean is not too happy about Sam even bringing up Rowena's name, but it seems that both brothers know that she is probably the only one able to heal Castiel before the spell kills him. She was, after all, the person who helped them remove the mark from Dean, so she's likely the only person who knows what's going on with Castiel.
Viewers who've seen the preview for this week's episode already know that Rowena does make her comeback in "The Bad Seed," so it's likely that Sam and Dean will come to some kind of agreement with her. And if their past history with her is any indication, that will not end well.
Of course, Castiel's strange illness isn't the only thing worrying the Winchesters. There's also the matter of the baby, Amara, who went missing at the end of last week's episode. Viewers know that the baby grew into a young girl, though, something the Winchesters haven't figured out yet, although they did realize that Amara eventually grows up to become the physical embodiment of The Darkness to become the woman Dean saw in his visions.
There's also the question of whether Sam really cured himself of The Darkness last week: the solution seemed a little too simple to work long-term.
Here's the official synopsis for "The Bad Seed," directed by Ackles.
"While Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) tries to consolidate her power to protect herself from the Winchesters, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) search for a missing baby connected to the Darkness. Meanwhile, Castiel (Misha Collins) struggles to heal and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) tries to find a way to use the Darkness for his own personal gain."
