Stay in the air. That's the first tip in the latest video previewing the upcoming shooter RPG Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, called "Handsome Jack's Tips For Surviving On The Moon!"
As usual, the tongue-in-cheek humor from the Borderlands series shows up again in a video teasing the new game. The video highlights the main difference this entry in the series has compared to past games: it takes place on a moon. That means low-gravity jumps, freezing conditions and space monsters.
The video features six tips from Handsome Jack, which provides a look at some new maneuvers characters can perform, some new enemies, new weapons to be used and the powers of two of the four new playable characters: Wilhelm the Enforcer and Athena the Gladiator.
Both were non-playable characters in past Borderlands games who interacted with the protagonists, but are now finally in players' hands. The other two player characters are Nisha the Lawbringer and Claptrap the Fragtrap, the little robot who provides some of the humor in the games and has become a mascot for the franchise.
The Borderlands series is known for its apocalyptic-sci-fi feel, its humorous dialogue and missions, its four-playing co-op shooter RPG gameplay and its comic book-style graphics. Borderlands, released in October 2009, and Borderlands 2, from September 2012, each sold about five million copies, according to VGChartz.
The two-minute video is narrated by Handsome Jack, the villain from Borderlands 2 who now has the role of being the protagonists' boss in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
The Pre-Sequel is appropriately named because it takes place between Borderlands and Borderlands 2. Though the original two games were made by Gearbox Software, The Pre-Sequel is being developed by 2K Australia, a developer owned by series publisher 2K Games.
Another new game in the franchise will be released later this year. Tales from the Borderlands is a story-oriented game that is being developed by Telltale Games. It will be an episodic game and feature similar gameplay as other Telltale titles, such as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us.
Other videos released to preview The Pre-Sequel include the characters dancing on the moon and another has Handsome Jack reading a poem about himself fashioned after Percy Bysshe Shelley's sonnet "Ozymandias."
Borderland: The Pre-Sequel will be released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 14.
