HTC has released a new Restore app on the Play Store that will work only with its devices running on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Google launched its new mobile operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow in late September. The Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5X will be the first devices to come running on the latest OS straight out of the box and Google has already released the software to some of its Nexus devices.
Smartphone maker HTC has also confirmed a list of devices that will receive a software update but an exact release date for Android 6.0 Marshmallow remains unknown. However, HTC has an event scheduled for Oct. 20, where the company is rumored to unveil the HTC One A9, the company's first smartphone that will come running on Android's latest OS pre-installed.
The HTC One A9 will be the first device that can benefit from the latest HTC Restore app. The app is similar to Google's device restore function, which came along Android 5.0 Lollipop. However, the HTC app is restricted only to HTC devices.
"HTC Restore lets you import the content that you've saved using HTC Backup. You can restore whatever you've previously backed up, including settings, accounts and passwords, bookmarks, messages, contacts or apps. HTC Restore is only available for phones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow," reads HTC Restore app description on the Play Store.
Google's device restore function re-downloads apps from the Play Store and it also restores some settings from the user's Google account. However, the HTC Restore app is a bit more effective; the app also restores text messages, passwords and bookmarks.
Even though the HTC Restore app can assist HTC customers to restore some details on their HTC phone, the app will be of no use until Android 6.0 Marshmallow is rolled out to HTC smartphones or until the HTC One A9 hits the shelves.
The HTC Restore app is available for free on the Play Store and the download file weighs 12MB.
