3D Touch is no longer reserved just for the latest iPhones, as a new jailbreak tweak called Forcy now adds such features to older iPhones as well.
The new-generation iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus sport many improvements compared to previous iPhone iterations, and 3D Touch is among the highlight features they bring to the table. The 3D Touch pressure-sensitive allow for various functionality to make things easier and more convenient, and has stirred plenty of interest among consumers.
This 3D Touch is available on several Apple products, but the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus are the only smartphones to rock the technology. Although Apple did not extend 3D Touch to older iPhone models as well, a new jailbreak tweak now allows users to try out such contextual functionality even on iPhones without pressure-sensitive displays.
The Pangu team recently released its brand new iOS 9 jailbreak and Forcy is now among the first newly-developed tweaks for that jailbreak. Forcy allows users to enable 3D Touch-like gestures and functionality on any device running iOS 9, not just the latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
The Forcy jailbreak tweak doesn't bring 3D Touch per se, but what it offers is uncannily similar to what 3D Touch devices such as the iPhone 6s have to offer, shows iDownloadblog. For instance, Forcy brings the much-touted Home screen app shortcuts that proved so popular with the latest iPhones.
Forcy is available for download from the Cydia BigBoss repo and works only with jailbroken devices, so if you're against jailbreaking your iPhone this app is not for you.
Once installed, Forcy brings 3D Touch-like functionality but does not allow for user configuration. This means that you can't configure which apps feature 3D Touch-inspired gestures and which not, you only get to use compatible home screen icons. Nevertheless, Forcy supports a number of compatible apps including Camera, Messages, Calendar, Clock, Wallet, iBooks, Notes, News, Phone, Game Center, Mail, Safari, Contacts, and Find Friends. All you need to do is swipe up on one of these compatible apps.
Because older iPhone models don't have the pressure-sensitive displays of the latest generation, Forcy relies on the swipe gesture to do its magic. Simply put, swipe gestures with Forcy enable the shortcut menus 3D Touch activates on the latest iPhones. On the other hand, Forcy lacks the haptic feedback of the actual 3D Touch functionality.
