I know what I want for stocking stuffers this Christmas. Splatoon, Nintendo's non-violent shooter game with a cast of quirky and colorful paintball aficionado characters, announced that the plushie versions of the game's heroes will be available in time for the holidays.
The downside is, for now, the Splatoon Plushie dolls will only be available in Japan for 2500 yen each (or around $21).
Previously, images of the toys were posted online when a writer neglected to see the “no photographs” sign written in Japanese in the plushies' display case at the Tokyo Game Show in September. According to the report, the company licensed to produce the dolls is San-Ei, which also makes popular Mario plushies available in Japan.
But San-Ei finally officially announced the Splatoon plushies on their twitter account with the details that the dolls based on the Wii-U exclusive game will be sold in Japan stores beginning December 2015.
Although plushies of the game's squids in ink form were already sold in Japan back in July, this is the first time we'll see the Boy and Girl squid-kids as soft, huggable plush dolls.
The previously published photos of the toys from the Tokyo Game Show also have Judd the cat in the line-up, however no indication on the official San-Ei page or announcement if he will also be released with the Squid-kids.
No words yet on when or if we'll ever see these toys Stateside, but better get a hold of your Japanese friends to grab up these Splatoon kids as soon as they hit shelves in December.
And here's to me hoping that maybe, just maybe I've been good enough this year so that Santa will drop one down my chimney when he makes his rounds on Christmas eve.
