Ever the eccentric, actor Bill Murry surprises us yet again with the first look at the Christmas special he will be hosting and starring in on Netflix. Even more, Sofia Coppola, his collaborator in "Lost In Translation," wrote and directed the festive affair.
Just like Holiday specials of past Christmases, big name celebrities will be making appearances. Miley Cyrus, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, George Clooneyand others are seen in the trailer joining in on the fun as Murray croons away to "Let it Snow."
But this is no run-of-the-mill Christmas variety show. Although we can expect some improv hijinx from Murray, as early as last year, he told reporters that there will be some form of structure and narrative to the special.
"It's not going to be live. We're going to do it like a little movie. It won't have a format, but it's going to have music. It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose," he said.
Coppola also shared that the idea for the show started off as the two were sharing their mutual fondness for the over-the-top Christmas variety shows of the '50s, '60s and '70s. She said she took on the job as director because she just wanted to hear Murray sing her favorite Christmas requests.
The trailer for the special seems to show Murray preparing for the Christmas special itself, which he declares will be, "the greatest night in history!"
The Carlyle hotel seems to be the setting for the crazy antics that Murray will be doing with all his special guests.
Although the show will not be a live variety show, with Murray on board, it's sure to bring a lot of laughs and holiday cheer.
The Netflix special presentation of A Very Murray Christmas is set to premiere on the streaming entertainment service on Dec. 4, 2015.
