If there's anyone who knows where hard work can get you, it's Ronda Rousey.
The UFC Women's Bantamweight champion is not one to shy away from a challenge so when she made it known that she was interested in starring in Captain Marvel, she's been steadily gaining ground to show Marvel that she has what it takes to play the superhero. Rousey definitely has the physicality required to give Captain Marvel justice down pat but she's well aware that the part will require some acting chops so she's covering her bases.
In recent years, Rousey has appeared in small roles in Expendables 3, Entourage and Furious 7, each one getting her ready for her first starring role in Mile 22 opposite Mark Wahlberg.
"Hopefully by the time Captain Marvel comes around, I will have enough experience and skills in the field for them to really seriously consider me," she said.
Rousey is doing this to show Marvel Studios that she's serious about vying for the role of Carol Danvers but more than the executives, this move might more appease Marvel fans, many of whom expressed their apprehension at the athlete playing the superhero because of her lack of acting experience.
She's been also announced to star in the remake of Round House, which according to Rousey, took her two years to pursue, so that's another chance for her to hone her acting skills.
Rousey might actually have the time to grow as an actress because Marvel has yet to decide on a cast for Captain Marvel. In fact, the movie's release date was recently pushed back after already being delayed. Originally, it was set for a July 6, 2018 release. That was moved to Nov. 2, 2018, which has now been rescheduled to Mar. 8, 2019. Captain Marvel has no director attached yet as well although Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman have been tapped to write the script.
In November, Rousey's acting career may have to take a backseat as she gets back in the octagon to square off with Holly Holm and defend her belt on the 14th for UFC 193. If Rousey wins, it will be her seventh consecutive title defense. Her most recent defense resulted in a 34-second knockout against Bethe Correia.
