The Star Wars: Battlefront beta has been going extremely well for EA and DICE. While there are definitely some complaints, the beta has been more stable than some full releases — considering EA's rocky history with launches, the Battlefront beta has been a pleasant surprise.
If there's one thing that many fans are still worried about, it's the amount of content. Star Wars: Battlefront is already missing a few features that prior Battlefront games had, and EA has a history of forcing microtransactions and season passes onto players who just want to play the game they already bought. While the former won't be making an appearance in Battlefront, the latter certainly will be.
As part of a blog post made earlier today, EA announced the Star Wars: Battlefront season pass, as well as its price point. If you were worried that spending $60 on Battlefront was already pushing the boundaries of what your wallet would allow, know that it'll take another $50 to unlock everything that the game has to offer.
That's right: the Star Wars: Battlefront Season Pass will cost you a whopping $50. In an age where more and more developers are handing out DLC for free, it's surprising to see a season pass that costs nearly as much as the game itself ... and it certainly doesn't help that EA is being vague about what exactly the DLC pack contains.
"Get 4 upcoming expansion packs filled with new content, two-week early access to each expansion and an exclusive 'Shoot First' emote."
... and that's it. There's no word on how many maps will be included, what planets they'll be set on or why anyone would bother using an emote in a game like Battlefront.
In all honesty, the timing couldn't be worse: it's not every day that you see EA as the subject of praise, but it seems as if the vast majority of players have been really enjoying the Battlefront beta. Season passes aren't exactly popular, and announcing one of the most expensive DLC passes in recent memory certainly isn't going to win the publisher any points with gamers — so why bother announcing it now, when gamers are actually all right with EA?
Either way, it looks like much of the game's content will be locked behind a season pass — let's just hope that the core game has enough to warrant the first purchase, let alone a second.
