One would think that New York Comic Con weekend is a time for celebration. After all, this is an event that tens of thousands of people attend every year for the sole purpose of professing their love of all things geek.
TV shows, comic books, movies, video games and an endless flood of toys and collectibles lined the floor of the Jacob Javits Center this past weekend as any fan with a shred of geek cred was there to soak it all in.
Simply put: this was nerdvana.
However, the biggest stir on the convention floor wasn't created by a new Marvel movie or DC comic; it was caused, oddly enough, by Grumpy Cat, the fuzzy meme-able misanthrope that became a sensation by categorically not enjoying herself.
Grumpy Cat might seem like an odd guest for a comic book convention, but she was there in conjunction with Dynamite Entertainment to drum up interest for the Grumpy Cat comic book. However, once the crowd got a glimpse of the Grumpy one, Beatles levels of pandemonium broke out, and the Dynamite booth was soon flooded by a mob of people looking for just a glimpse of that iconic sour puss.
The crowd grew so far out of control that the comic book's writer and Tech Times contributor, Ben McCool, saw his autograph session cancelled because of the madness. We caught up with Ben, who described the scene as only he could:
