With Android users eagerly anticipating the latest Marshmallow software update to make its way to their devices, several OEMs have begun rolling out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to bring their devices up to date.
Huawei too has taken the plunge and is now pushing out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Ascend P7 smartphone, which came pre-loaded with Android 4.4.2 KitKat when it was released in 2014.
On Saturday, Oct. 10 Huawei started rolling out the over-the-air (OTA) update for the Ascend P7, which will now jump straight from KitKat to Lollipop.
Since it is an OTA update, it is being pushed out in phases and may take a while to reach all users of the phablet. For those who do not wish to wait for the OTA update, they can download the pre-Marshmallow OS directly from Huawei's website.
Earlier in June, Huawei had opened a public beta to test the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Ascend P7. At the time, it was estimated that the soak test for the smartphone would possibly be through by July or early August and then released for users of the 5-inch phablet.
However, the software update took longer than anticipated to make its way to Ascend P7 owners and comes after a gap of several months post the public beta release.
The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update weighs 1.26 GB and will bring a slew of enhancements to the smartphone.
To refresh your memory, the Ascend P7 sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive display, which offers support for 1,080p resolution. The phablet has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating as well.
The device also houses a quad-core HiSilicon Kirin 910T processor, which is clocked at 1.8 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. The Huawei smartphone has 16 GB of on-board storage.
The Ascend P7 also has a 13 MP primary camera with LED flash, autofocus and full HD video recording support. Selfie lovers have an 8 MP camera to contend with.
