Verizon Wireless' variant of the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime is now getting the much-awaited Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update.
The 4.5-inch smartphone will finally leap from Android 4.4 KitKat to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The users of the Verizon variant will welcome the news as the Galaxy Core Prime was initially launched as a carrier exclusive earlier in February this year.
At the time of launch, Samsung had promised an update to Android Lollipop for the budget handset and is now sticking to its words.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update to Android Lollipop (OS 5.1.1) that will improve the performance of your Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone," notes the carrier.
The software update for the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime has the build number LMY48B.G360VVRU3BOH3 per the changelog. The update is an over-the-air one and can be downloaded over a stable Wi-Fi connection.
With the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update being rolled out by Verizon, the carrier's variant will join the ranks of several other Galaxy Core Prime units which have already tasted Android Lollipop, albeit version 5.0.2.
The software update brings several enhancements and improvements to the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. The major change is a bug fix for the Stagefright exploit, which enables hackers to control Android-powered devices. For the unfamiliar, an attacker merely needs to send a user an MMS, which once opened would give the hacker complete access to one's Android device.
The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update also brings a new Material Design, alterations to the lockscreen with shortcuts for the Camera and Phone (negating the need to unlock the device) and some security patches.
To check if you have received the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update for the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime go to Settings > About device > Software update > Check for updates.
Remember that your device must have over 50 percent battery charge before you begin the download and sufficient memory space in the smartphone.
