AT&T Releases Android Update For Galaxy Note Pro 12.2... But It's To 5.1.1 Lollipop

It has not been long since Verizon rolled out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to its version of Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and now AT&T has followed suit.

The U.S. carrier confirmed on its support page that it has released the over-the-air (OTA) software update for Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 on Sept. 29. The last update the AT&T Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 received was the Android 4.4.2 KitKat on Dec. 12, 2014.

The Samsung tablet is not the only one to receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update on AT&T. The carrier also rolled the same Android version to Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge on Sept. 26.

AT&T has not revealed the full changelog but following the update, some apps that include: Famigo Kids, Beats Music and Watch On will be removed. Amazon Shopping app will be added after the software update.

Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 users on AT&T should get a notification about the update and they should click Continue and follow simple instructions. After installation customers can also verify the Android version by going to the device's Settings and tap on the General tab. Then tap on About device, which should show "Software Version: 5.1.1."

The latest software update weighs 1010MP, which means that a Wi-Fi connection is needed to install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on Galaxy Note Pro 12.2.

Google has launched Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Sept. 29 and the new OS will make its way initially to Nexus devices in early October. Non-Nexus Android device owners will hope to get a taste of Android 6.0 Marshmallow as soon as possible. However, smartphone makers have not yet released a confirmed list of devices that will receive the latest Android OS.

In the U.S., software update roll out also varies from carrier to carrier, which means that customers in the users will have to wait until their network announces Android 6.0 Marshmallow for their version of the devices.

The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 was launched in January 2014 and the 12.2-inch tablet hit the shelves in February 2014, which means that the tablet is relatively old. The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 came running on Android 4.4 KitKat straight out of the box and it has not received any major software updates since launch.

Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 customers should be happy that they have at least received Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as it may happen that the tablet will not receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow at all.
