Last night's episode of Arrow saw Oliver Queen realizing that the former Starling City, now Star City, still needs him, especially with the arrival of bad guy Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and his lackeys.
So Oliver became something else, someone else, and once more donned a superhero suit, grabbed his bow and arrows and jumped in to help his team save the city. But this time, things are different: he's no longer Arrow, but Green Arrow.
However, Team Green Arrow has its hands full with Darhk, who already tried to blow up a train station in the first episode of the season: things are already looking messy with this new bad guy.
Of course, there's more, because Star City attracts villains like flies: next week Anarky (Alexander Calvert) turns up. A new trailer previewing the episode, "The Candidate," offers a sneak peek at this villain, including Oliver explaining to Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) that the police department cannot take on this new bad guy alone. Oliver offers the help of Green Arrow and his team.
In DC Comics, Anarky, aka Lonnie Machin, was a known adversary of Batman, who began life as a child prodigy. In the comics, Anarky has very specific ideas and philosophies about overthrowing governments to bring about social change to improve human life.
"The Candidate" also introduces Jessica Danforth (Jeri Ryan), an old friend to the Queen family, who plans on running for mayor. Of course, Oliver and Thea aren't sure this is such a good idea.
But there's much more we'll see in episode 2 of the new season of Arrow. Here's the official episode synopsis:
"When an old family friend, Jessica Danforth (guest star Jeri Ryan), tells Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Thea (Willa Holland) that she is going to run for mayor, both Queens are concerned considering the last three mayors have been murdered. Despite their protests, Jessica makes her announcement so the Green Arrow and Speedy vow to protect her. Meanwhile, Thea begins to exhibit effects from the Lazarus Pit. In addition, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) is faced with a tough business decision and looks to one of her employees, Curtis Holt (guest star Echo Kellum), for help."
Meanwhile, there's still Damien Darhk and his "HIVE" to deal with, too. It looks like Team Green Arrow has its work cut out for it this season.
Arrow airs on The CW on Wednesdays.
