LookSee Labs attempts to combine the power of technology with a person's individual sense of fashion into a unique wearable device that promises to look good on anyone's wrist with its "eye-catching" design.
Aptly called "Eyecatcher," the device is a brainchild of LookSee Labs, a startup company with headquarters located in Oakland, California. The wearable, which is touted for its smart and large display as well as longer than the usual battery life, is now launched in a campaign at Kickstarter.
As of this writing, the campaign already earned support from 230 backers and raised almost $56,000 pledge amount out of the $75,000 goal. The pledge amount can go from $214 up to $500 and higher.
Kickstarter describes the "Eyecatcher" as a "smart bracelet that fuses art, fashion and technology by displaying custom images, slideshows, app-notifications and breaking news."
There are 3 design options to choose from which include stainless steel, white bronze and solid sterling silver. The bands are specifically available in 3 sizes and in 3 different styles.
Unlike most wearables, the Eyecatcher bracelet has no buttons and instead, depends on an iOS app for manipulation. After a successful connection, users can start choosing an image to display and then download such choice into the bracelet. There's also an option to upload one's own photo or display pattern on the Eyecatcher. Users can also choose from the pre-set patterns found in the wearable.
As for the battery, the Eyecatcher features a 100mAh micro USB rechargeable battery which is powerful enough to allow the user to download and update the display by up to 8,000 times. On a regular use wherein the display is updated at least once in every hour, the battery life is expected to last at least for one whole year before it requires recharging.
While the Eyecatcher has been designed for use by both men and women, there is no denying that it caters more to the more fashion-conscious female consumers.
"We realized they were not interested in information," said Per Ljung, founder of LookSee Labs. "Women wanted pictures, patterns - an emotional connection. So we made a jewelry piece and showed it, and women pulled out their credit card to order it."
Other notable features of the Eyecatcher include an always on flexible electrophoretic display, Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity to the iPhone, built-in memory to accommodate image slideshows of around 12 images, micro-USB port for recharging, and water-resistance.
The Eyecatcher Smart bracelet is scheduled to ship in February 2016. However, the schedule can also change since it is a crowdfunding campaign. Some of the factors that can cause the delay include unforeseen component alteration, unproven real world performance of materials, and unfamiliarity of a vendor's credibility since there is no history of collaboration in the past.
