Tech companies have been pushing smartwatches for over a year now, and it's time traditional watchmakers step in, too.
TAG Heuer, for example, has announced its first "connected timepiece" after teasing it a number of times and suffering leaks related to the device. The watch itself will debut on Nov. 9 and will cost a cool $1,800.
The device is called the Carrera Wearable 01, and while the price tag certainly seems over the top, we are talking about a luxury device. Even TAG Heuer was worried about the price tag, but it was reportedly satisfied that it wasn't asking too much after Apple and Hermes paired up.
Jean-Claude Biver, the CEO of TAG Heuer, has a lot to thank Apple for. According to Biver, young people had stopped wearing watches of late, however, thanks to the rise of the smartwatch, that trend might be over.
Swiss watchmakers in general, however, have had trouble keeping up with the smartwatch trend, partly because of the tradition of the Swiss watch and partly because they lack the technological experience like the likes of Apple and Samsung.
Because of this, TAG Heuer actually enlisted the help of Google and Intel, however, despite collaborating with one of Apple's main competitors, Biver says that it would be foolish to attempt to try and chase Apple's popularity.
