Oppo is gearing up to release the successor of its Oppo R7, dubbed the Oppo R7s, a few weeks from now.
According to reports, the China-based company will take the wraps off its R7s on Oct. 18 at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) in Dubai.
"The R7s will offer consumers a bigger battery, a larger screen and double the storage space of the R7, all the while boasting the full-metal unibody and stellar photo-taking capabilities of its predecessor," divulged Oppo in a press release.
The report was accompanied by the image of Oppo's invite for the "World Premiere" of the Oppo R7s on Oct. 18 in Dubai.
The Oppo R7s has been rumored for a while now. In September, the smartphone surfaced on TENAA, giving a peek into the specs the smartphone would pack in.
The Oppo R7s would join the ranks of siblings R7 Plus, R7 Lite and Mirror 5. The smartphone is rumored to sport a 5.5-inch FullHD AMOLED display. The display size makes the Oppo R7s' screen bigger than the predecessor R7 which had a 5-inch screen.
The new smartphone is said to house a Snapdragon 615 SoC which is clocked at 1.5GHz. This is likely the same processor, which fueled the R7.
The R7s will supposedly have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage, the latter being an improvement on the 16GB boasted by the R7. However, the older iteration had an expandable memory option, but it is not known if the R7s will have support for the same.
Judging by the leaks, the cameras on the R7s will not have a major overhaul. The device will likely come with an 8MP selfie camera and a 13MP rear-facing one just like on the R7. The Oppo R7s is said to come pre-loaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
The Oppo R7s will allegedly weigh 200g (7 ounces), making it heavier than the 5-inch R7 which weighs 147g (5 ounces). This suggests that the impending smartphone may house a colossal battery which could be bigger than the 4100 mAh battery in the R7 Plus.
The Oppo R7s may be bigger and possibly better on paper than the R7; however, whether it is able to capture the consumer market and strike a chord with customers remains to be seen.
It is expected that the smartphone makes its way to consumers in time for the holiday season.
