iPhone 6 release date reportedly confirmed. Production starting in July

Details on Apple's iPhone 6 have been pouring out as we get closer to the phone's release, but until today it was unclear when that release was. Separate reports from German and Chinese sources now confirm that the release date for the iPhone 6 is Sept. 19.

It has also been leaked that there will be a 32 GB and a 64 GB model of the iPhone 6, indicating Apple may be doing away with the 16 GB model. Sources indicate that the price of the 32 GB phone will be 5,288 yuan, or around $846. 5,288 yuan is the current price of the 16 GB iPhone 5s in China, while the 32 GB version costs 6,088 yuan. The 64 GB model of the iPhone 6 will sell for 6,288 yuan, or roughly $1008.

Previous reports suggested that the iPhone 6 will have a larger screen at 4.7 inches compared to the 4-inch iPhone 5s. The phone will also come in a larger 5.5-inch model for the first time. It was thought that the 5.5-inch iPhone would be released later than the normal model, but report says that may not be the case, the larger model may be available at the same time despite manufacturing difficulties.

"Production of the 5.5-inch model is more complicated than the smaller version, resulting in lower production efficiency that must be overcome before manufacturing volume can be increased, said the person." said one person familiar with the plans.

The iPhone 6 will be thinner than previous versions, and will have rounded edges as opposed to the square shape of previous designs. Full-scale production is due to start soon, with factories in China already dramatically increasing hiring to prepare for the project. However, Apple has run into some issues with manufacturing. Catcher Technology was rumored to be providing the metal cases for the iPhone 6. However, latest reports indicate that Apple discovered defects in an area where the metal and plastic sections of the case connect, and has rejected the case. Apple is now working on short term contracts with existing partners such as Jabil and Foxconn to produce the first cases.
