'Gotham' Will Finally Give Us Concrete Answers About Joker's Origins

We have come to accept the fact the Jerome Valeska is probably the Joker on Fox's Gotham. Now, we will finally get the concrete answers we deserve about his origins.

"We're going to be giving you concrete answers to his identity," Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller said in a interview with Nerdist. "That story is going to come to a huge and shocking resolution which will explain the whole Joker myth and how it began and how the Joker came to be."

To be clear, it hasn't officially been revealed that Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) is the popular villain. However, there have been quite a few clues thus far in season 2 to make him the clear frontrunner. We first saw him in a promo titled "The Last Laugh" that featured the signature crazed chuckle and what also appeared to be Joker Gas.

We then saw that Jerome tied up his father up, where he went on to share a childhood story that resembles the type of speech — and laugh — of the Joker.

He is also the leader of the villainous gang the Maniax, which is made up of escaped criminals from Arkham Asylum. After the baddie took the credit for the bloodshed that occurred in the latest episode, we are sure the Gotham City Police Department will be after him — which will ultimately lead to our questions finally being answered about the character.

Along with the Joker's big reveal, Heller also revealed we will be introduced to Dr. Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze this season. "The subtitle of this season is 'Rise of the Villains' and I'm so excited to roll out those big baddies," Heller said. "We've got some great ones coming up that is the nub of what makes the DC universe so great, those monsters and villains and the ever-increasing stakes they bring. I'm so excited about what we're about to do."

Fans will go get to see the young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) be introduced in the next few episodes.

Don't miss learning the origin story of the Joker when Gotham airs at 8 p.m. EDT on Monday on Fox.
