One of the features of the camera of Google's new Huawei-made Nexus 6P device is laser auto-focus, which allows the smartphone's camera to adjust the focus on a subject quicker and more accurately.
However, as Google attempts to create a much better camera user experience for the Nexus 6P, some third-party covers and cases for the device are found to be blocking off the feature, rendering the laser auto-focus useless.
The Nexus 6P is the first Nexus device to have a full metal body, so users would understandably want to protect it with a case. There are both official cases made by Google and also third-party cases designed to protect the Nexus 6P, but as mentioned, some of these cases block the laser auto-focus.
The laser auto-focus is located to the right of the camera sensor and LED flash at the back of the Nexus 6P, within the black bar at the top of the device. Some third-party cases lack the room for the laser auto-focus to operate, which could result in pictures that look terrible.
The offending cases can be spotted by comparing the hole at the back of the official Nexus 6P cases by Google with the holes at the back of third-party cases. It is evident right away that some cases have holes that abruptly end right beside the LED flash, when the laser auto-focus is located a bit more to the right of the LED flash.
Some of the case manufacturing companies already had the accessories available even before the official unveiling of the Nexus 6P, which means that the companies were not aware of the location of the laser auto-focus while they were designing and producing the cases.
Nexus 6P owners who are looking to protect their smartphones with a case should make sure that the accessory they are purchasing leaves room for the laser auto-focus or, to be safe, they should instead purchase an official case from Google for the Nexus 6P.
This would eliminate the hassle of having to take off the Nexus 6P's case every time the user needs to take a picture and take advantage of the laser auto-focus.
